Privacy Policy for Retro Alarm

Effective Date: January 9, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the Retro Alarm app (com.ratama.retroalarm) created by [Your Name/Company Name] ("we," "us," or "our"). We prioritize your privacy and are transparent about the permissions our app requires to function.

1. Information Collection and Use

We do not collect, store, share, or sell any personal user data.

Retro Alarm functions as a standalone, offline application. All data regarding alarm times, settings, and preferences are processed locally on your device in temporary memory. We do not transmit any information to external servers, cloud storage, or third-party analytics services.

2. Android Permissions

To provide its core functionality as an alarm clock, Retro Alarm requests specific Android permissions. Below is an explanation of why each permission is required:

  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK:

    • Purpose: This is critical for the app's core function. It allows the alarm service to run in the background so that the alarm can trigger even if you close the main application window. It also allows the app to play audio (alarm sounds or relax mode music) while the screen is off.

  • WAKE_LOCK:

    • Purpose: This ensures that when an alarm triggers, your device's CPU stays awake long enough to play the sound and turn on the screen, ensuring you do not miss your alarm due to the device sleeping.

  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS:

    • Purpose: Android requires this permission to display the persistent "Listening for alarms..." notification. This notification is mandatory for foreground services to ensure the Android system does not kill the alarm process to save battery.

  • REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS:

    • Purpose: Modern Android devices aggressively close background apps to save battery. We may request this permission to ensure the alarm triggers reliably at the exact scheduled time.

  • INTERNET (Network Access):

    • Purpose: Although this permission is often associated with online access, Retro Alarm uses it solely for local inter-process communication. The app's interface communicates with the background alarm service using a local loopback connection (UDP 127.0.0.1). No data is sent to the internet.

3. Log Data

The application generates a local text file (service_debug.log) on your device to help track internal errors (e.g., if an alarm fails to play). This file is stored strictly on your device and is not automatically uploaded to us.

4. Third-Party Services

Retro Alarm does not use third-party advertising frameworks (e.g., AdMob) or analytics trackers (e.g., Google Analytics).

5. Security

Since we do not collect personal data or transmit data over the internet, there is no risk of your personal data being intercepted or breached via our application.

6. Children’s Privacy

Our Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. Since we do not collect personal information, we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
